Thin Clients

Thin clients are lightweight computing devices designed to access a centralised server, where the majority of processing and data storage occurs.   Either a dedicated thin client terminal or a regular PC with thin client software is used to send keyboard and mouse input to the server and receive screen output in return. The thin client does not process any data; it processes only the user interface (UI). The benefits are improved maintenance and security due to central administration of the hardware and software in the datacenter. We stock thin clients from all major brands including Dell , HP and Lenovo.

Thin Clients Frequently Asked Questions

How does a thin client work?

It connects to a server (either on-premises or in the cloud) over a network. The server hosts the operating system, applications, and data, and the thin client displays the user interface and sends user input back to the server.

What are the main advantages of using thin clients?

Centralised management, enhanced security, lower hardware costs, longer lifespan, reduced energy consumption, simplified maintenance, and improved data security.

What are the disadvantages of using thin clients?

Reliance on network connectivity, potential performance limitations if the server or network is slow, limited offline capabilities, and initial server infrastructure investment.
